Scholarship Programmes for Diaspora Children (SPDC) by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA)


Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children (SPDC) was introduced by Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) under Government of India to assist children / wards of Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and Non-Resident Indian (NRIs) in pursuing under graduate courses in several disciplines in India. Another objective of this scheme is to promote India as a centre for higher studies.

Scholarship amount : US$ 4,000 per annum

This sum will be awarded to 100 (PIO/NRI) students from around 40 countries which are having substantial Indian Diaspora population.

Admission will be provided in EdCIL’s MOU institutes

The courses of study are available in the following areas:

Engineering/Architecture/Technology
Humanities/ Liberal Arts
Commerce
Management: BBA/BBM
Computers: BCA
Journalism
Hotel Management
Agriculture/Animal Husbandry
Sciences
Law
Ayurveda etc.


PIO / NRI Students who are looking for above mentioned undergraduate courses can apply for the Scholarship Programmes for Diaspora Children (SPDC).

The applications from the students who meet the prescribed eligibility criteria may be sent to the Indian Missions / Posts abroad. These applications are evaluated and shortlisted by selection committee consisting of officers from Ministry of HRD, Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs and Ed.CIL (India) an autonomous body under Ministry of HRD.

EdCIL (India) Ltd is the Nodal Agency for the implementation of this scheme and will provide the assistance required before and after the admission.

50 % of the scholarship slots would be reserved for PIOs. However, in the event of the non-availability of suitable PIO candidates, the unfilled slots could be assigned to NRI candidates.

Candidates would be selected on the basis of their performance in the qualifying examination (equivalent to plus 2 stage in India) which decides the eligibility to apply for the scholarship scheme.

Children of NRIs should have pursued at least three years of education, inclusive of 11th & 12th or equivalent (not beyond), in a foreign country during the last six years, and should have passed the qualifying examination abroad.

NRI students whose family monthy income which exceed an amount equivalent to US $ 2,250 are not eligible for the scheme.

Usually the applications for this scheme are invited during the month of June of every year.
